At REJUV AVE. we think the skin is a beautiful thing; in fact, the skin is the largest organ of the human body!
Our skin protects us from everyday elements, helps regulate body temperature, and allows us to experience sensation. It’s no wonder as we age, we begin to see just how hard our skin has been working tirelessly to work for us. Stretch marks are one of the signs of protection. Common questions we receive here at REJUV AVE. are “How do we get stretch marks and how do they develop? When do stretch marks develop? Can these imperfections of the skin be removed? We are here to help clients in the surrounding Flint and Fenton areas better understand stretch marks and options they have to improve their skin.
What is a stretch mark?
A stretch mark is a type of scar that develops when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear. And all stretch marks aren’t created equal. They come in all different sizes, shapes and color. Did you know a high percentage of American’s have stretch marks? Or that it’s very frequent that people Google search “How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks?” We’re not ALONE!
How do stretch marks develop?

Laser Treatments and Micro-Needling at REJUV AVE.
At REJUV AVE., we have Laser Technology and a Micro-Needling solution for stretch marks!
First, let’s talk Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing. Fractional laser skin resurfacing is a non-invasive, non-ablative treatment that improves stretch marks. Collagen and elastin are key players for the skin. Their job is to keep connective tissue firm and help hold its shape. Earlier we learned that a stretch mark is an abrupt change causing the collagen and elastin which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear. The fraction laser beam penetrates the skin on a deeper level promoting the production of collagen and increasing cell turnover, which in time with a recommended series of 4-6 treatments, you should see significant improvement in the tone, texture, color, and elasticity of the stretch mark.
What can I expect from fractional laser treatments?
During treatment, the laser will feel much like a rubber band snap and will leave some “warmth” to the skin. Not the most comfortable to some, but the results are so worth it! If needed, a cold roller will be used after treatment to ease any “warmth” you may be experiencing. After treatment, you may experience mild tenderness, irritation, swelling, redness, dryness, peeling or flacking depending on the sensitivity of the skin. Depending on the area and aggressiveness of treatment, it will take 7-14 days for the skin to heal. Once the treatment has healed, some itching or dryness may occur.
